Scar Esthetique: Does Scar Esthetique Work?

While Scar Esthetique does contain some silicone based ingredients, it may not be the best scar treatment available since it is diluted with so many unproven ingredients and contains vitamin E, which may be harmful to scars.

Created by Scar Heal, Scar Esthetique is a scar cream that claims to reduce the appearance of scars by using multiple treatment methods. It contains silicone, which is the most effective means of diminishing scars, onion extract, and a combination of various anti-oxidants and vitamins. While onion extract has become a popular method of treating scars, studies have found that it is not effective for scar reduction. Likewise, the use of anti-oxidants and topical vitamins may influence the formation of collagen within scar tissue, but they have not been proven to reduce the appearance of old scars. There is also vitamin E in this product, which has been shown through studies, does not help with scar reduction and actually increases the risk for adverse reactions, such as dermatitis and rash.

The Verdict on Scar Esthetique
Although the use of dimethicone in treating scars has shown to be effective, the efficacy of silicone seems to be reduced when diluted with an over-abundance of ingredients, as the effectiveness derives greatly from its ability to form an impermeable barrier over the scar. Scar Esthetique seems to work on the false premise that using more ingredients means it will be more effective. The truth is that most of its ingredients have no proven effect and one ingredient, vitamin E, may actually be counterproductive for achieving the desired results.
